Reading time
The Tumult Championships are approaching, marking the final trial of the season and the official launch of Altered’s competitive circuit. This series of events will take place from April 5 to May 11, 2025, in participating stores and will bring Trial by Frost Season 2’s Organized Play to a thrilling conclusion.
How to Register for a Tumult Championship?
Since last week, the first partner stores of the Tumult Championships have opened player registrations! You can already find the first Tumult events in our Event Finder.
Not all stores have finalized their registrations yet, and new events are still being added. Don’t hesitate to contact your store to see if they are participating! Registrations remain open throughout the season, so check the event list regularly to stay updated.
Introduction to the Judge Evaluation Program
To ensure an optimal competitive experience for all players, we encourage participating stores to have at least one judge present during the championship. We recognize that assessing one’s own level as a judge can be challenging and wish to assist players and stores in doing so effectively.
For this, we have enlisted the help of key community members recognized for their expertise with Altered’s rules to create an evaluation questionnaire for the judge program. This initial step does not constitute an official certification as an Altered judge but will validate your knowledge of the basic rules and your ability to officiate a Tumult Championship.
Deck-Checking Policy for Stores
We encourage stores to verify the compliance of decks for players qualifying for the Top 8 at the end of the Swiss rounds.
Players are responsible for submitting a decklist that complies with Altered Tournament Rules and must accept deck checks at any time during the competition. The store must determine the best method for receiving decklists from participating players.
If a deck list does not comply with Altered deckbuilding rules, we recommend disqualifying its owner from the Top 8 and allowing the next highest-ranked player to take their place. However, the final decision rests with the judge present at the tournament.
If you have arbitration doubts or questions before your event, don’t hesitate to join our official Discord server and ask your questions in the rules-and-wording channel dedicated to rules discussions.
Tournament Structure Reminder
The tournament structure must include a Swiss rounds qualification phase followed by a single-elimination final phase to determine the Tumult Championship winner.
- Format: Standard Constructed BO1 (best-of-one matches)
- Round duration: 30 minutes
- Tournament structure: Swiss rounds
Recommended number of rounds based on player count:
- Up to 8 players: 4 rounds (2 hours)
- 9-16 players: 5 rounds (2.5 hours)
- 17-32 players: 6 rounds (3 hours)
- 33-64 players: 7 rounds (3.5 hours)
- 65-128 players: 8 rounds (4 hours)
After the Swiss rounds, the top 8 players will be seeded into a single-elimination bracket with one-game matches to determine the winner (estimated duration: 1.5 - 2 hours).
There are many rewards to win during the Tumult Championships: playmats, foil adventure cards, oversized promo cards. Find the details of each reward and their distribution in the following article.
Before finalizing the tournament, participating stores must record the winner’s faction to determine the results of the Kuraokami Community Event!
To optimize participants’ gaming experience, we recommend that stores use a tournament management tool to organize both tournament phases. This tool should rank players based on their matches and opponents. Platforms like Toornament or Melee.gg can help with handling the tournament.

We hope to see many of you at these first Tumult Championships. Prepare your expeditions and don’t forget your gear—the ascent awaits!
