Hello everyone,

As you have probably noticed, the success of the site and the app in beta has been huge, and today there are thousands of you connecting daily!

Here are some numbers to share on this topic, today, altered.gg represents:

  • 37 947 accounts created
  • 7 788 484 cards scanned
  • 169 348 unique cards scanned
  • 26 936 friends added
  • 5851 trades between players
  • 53 821 cards traded

With such success, you may also have noticed that many issues have arisen as a result of this large-scale test. Our teams are, of course, working hard to resolve them, but it turns out that things are taking longer than expected, and we thank you for your endless patience and understanding ❤️.

At the same time, the retail launch of the game on September 13th is approaching, and with it, the launch of the Organized Play program that you are all eagerly awaiting! This program also requires a digital update, and therefore resources, tests, support, etc.

As you might guess from reading these few lines, we will need to make some adjustments to our ambitions. Below you will find an initial assessment and some eagerly awaited fresh information.

Past and Current Technical Issues

The application is not available on the Google Play Store

  • Unfortunately, we still haven't been approved by Google, and we don't know how long it will take to resolve this process with them. We are currently going back and forth to meet their requirements, but we’re confident we’ll get there 💪!

I have to reinstall the app every time (or almost every time) I use it on iPhone

  • You should no longer encounter this issue.

I’m having trouble scanning certain cards with the App

  • In the latest patch, we added new features to the Mass Scan function available in the app, which should make things easier for you (flashlight, zoom, etc.).

The app is too slow

  • The server power allocated has been generally increased.
  • The system cache has been improved.
  • Many optimizations are still to come. Due to the extremely rapid growth of the user base, the increasing interactions with the app, and the upcoming new features some time will be needed to stabilize the overall performances.

I’m getting error messages or 404 errors

  • Most of these issues are related to the overall performance of the database, which has been regularly overtaxed. As mentioned earlier, many improvements are coming in the next few weeks.

Note: About the API

  • The API is an element that allows many external services to connect to our database, enabling them to access and use the data. For example, there are already many Deck Building sites, unique analysis sites, and sites that allow you to play Altered (BGA, ExAltered), etc.
  • With the success of the game and the number of services being created around it, these various services now represent a very significant portion of the site’s traffic (several thousand requests per day to retrieve information from our database and display it on their platforms). This traffic is not currently limited, and we allow everyone unlimited access to the API, which generates a significant load on the servers and contributes to the slowdowns.
  • We are actively considering this issue and how to proceed, as we do not want to prevent all the services created by the community from functioning. Therefore, we will soon need to find a balance to ensure that each user enjoys an optimal browsing experience on the Altered site or app.

Are you experiencing issues we haven’t listed? Do you have any questions?

Impact on the Roadmap

Given the efforts we need to put in and the complexity of certain issues, it has been decided to give absolute priority to improving your user experience on the existing services that are crucial to you.

We therefore prefer to postpone certain new features in order to free up the necessary bandwidth to accomplish this critical task. You can find the new digital roadmap below.

Store account registration

We are behind schedule on this, and account approvals have only recently begun. This process is manual and time-consuming, and it requires verifying that each registration is indeed a legitimate store and not someone trying to abuse the system.

We are aware of the importance of giving you access to your accounts, especially for organized play, and we are working as quickly as possible. You can find more details about this in the article below.

Event management tool & Tournament tool

We initially intended to provide event organizers with an integrated tournament management tool. Unfortunately, this tool will not be ready right away, and in the meantime, we suggest using existing tools you may be familiar with, or discovering the platform Toornament (https://www.toornament.com/) through the tournament creation guide we have prepared over here.

The event management tool should be released September 13.

  • It means that event organizers will have little to no time to familiarize themselves with it for their first events. Therefore, it is likely that several events will be organized without using this tool, and players may be concerned about not getting their Adventure Pass levels.
  • As a result, we have decided to offer two Adventure Pass levels to all players who activate their pass during Season 1. We believe it will take about two weeks from the tool's release on September 13th for organizers to become sufficiently familiar with its use. This way, we hope you will enjoy organized play with peace of mind, whether you are an organizer or a player, and if all goes well, organizers will be comfortable with the tool by early October.

The event management tool in its current state (as of September 13) will offer the following services:

  • Featuring events on the event calendar
  • Player pre-registrations (final validation will be done by the organizer)
  • Once players are registered and the event is over, they can benefit from a level in their Adventure Pass.

It will NOT offer the following (yet)

  • Tournament tool
  • Deck list registration from the app
  • Deck check tool for judges (via the Multiscan)
  • Rankings/Standings
  • Social features
  • Etc.

You can check out our guide for more information on organizing Altered events.

Deckbuilder

Released September 13. It will not be possible to ask players to register their decklist from the deck builder to the event itself within the app. This feature is planned for 2025.

Altered on Board Game Arena

Synchronizing your Altered account with your Board Game Arena account, allowing you to play with your digital collection, is still planned for September, and more likely at the end of September. More information to come.
