Altered Organized Play is the best and more popular way for the community to get together and enjoy the game. Meet with other players in local game stores (or LGSs), represent your faction, play your favorite formats and climb your way up the Adventure Pass!

Let’s go over what you can expect from Organized Play in the world of Altered.

Much like our Exalts (the name for a Hero and Companion combination) go through seasons in the world of Altered, we’ll go through seasons in the real world when playing Altered!

Many of the facets of Organized Play refer to “seasons.” In Altered, a season is the time from when you can first play with a new set until the day directly before the next set releases. For example, Altered Season 1 lasts from the game release, September 13th, till the release of the second set.

Altered is the first TCG to truly link the digital with the physical. Because of this, we have the ability to offer players something truly special for those of you who want to engage in Organized Play!

The Adventure Pass is a battle pass that rewards every player who participates in one of the official events around Altered. It is designed to reward all players, regardless of their individual results. It's our way of saying thank you—thank you for playing in local game stores or any live official event and bringing life to these community spaces that are so important for creating connections between players. It's also our way of encouraging you to explore new places and meet new people, forming new friendships if you aren't already regulars. It's free, it's easy, and we hope you'll love it!

So how does the Adventure Pass work?

Each season when you enroll in your first official Altered event via digital registration, you’ll be asked to select one of the six factions in Altered. Once selected, every time you participate in an official Altered event, you’ll earn one step on the Adventure Pass, including some rewards that are exclusive to the faction you’ve selected.Those rewards are automatically added to your digital account at the end of the season.

You might be wondering if you have to play each event with the faction you’ve selected with your Adventure Pass, and the answer is no! You are free to play with any faction or Hero, and don’t need to worry about matching them up with the faction you’ve selected. However, after you’ve completed the Adventure Pass with the faction you chose, you cannot start over and level up another one.

Expedition events are our way of creating an engaging, weekly event for players of all skill levels to begin their journey and experience Organized Play in Altered.

We want each community to be able to experience Altered in the way that best suits them, and to rally around their LGS and let them know what shape their Expeditions should take. Tournament organizers (TOs), which are often the game stores themselves have the ability to choose how their Expeditions function, including:

• Day of the week each Expedition takes place
• Format of each Expedition, including best-of-one or best-of-three
  • Read our Formats of Altered article to learn more about this.
• Any additional prizes
• Any entry requirements

Our goal is to make sure we can provide the tools for each TO to engage their community in the way that makes sense for them, both their level of comfort and competitiveness. For TOs that are just getting started with TCG organized play, we recommend the following:

• Standard format
• Best-of-one (30 minute time limit) or Best-of-three (50 minute time limit)
• Number of rounds: Discretion of TO
• Competitive level: Casual

To support the Expeditions, Equinox also offers a wide range of rewards to the players attending. (See “Adventure Pass” & “Promo boosters”)

For stores interested in joining the program, your Altered distributor should be able to provide you with all the necessary info.

Specifically designed to accompany the expeditions, they represent the physical rewards you can earn at these events based on your results.

Each booster is composed of three cards and each season brings new contents to your promo boosters, including exclusive promo cards, alternate art cards, extra foilers, and improved chances at Uniques!

Promo boosters are only available at your LGS, and by participating in official Altered events. Expeditions should always award some amount of promo boosters.

A Tumult Championship is the core event of a season at your favorite store. It's the best opportunity to showcase your skills and favorite faction to everyone.

The Tumult Championship is the next step up in competitive play, offering rewards that players can show off to stake their claim as the champions of their community.

This type of event should start with Season Two and more information about it will be announced closer to the release of Set 2 in early Q1 2025.

We know that there is a demand for an increase in competitive level events, events with prestige, and even more awesome prizes. We’re hard at work to make Altered all it can be and everything you expect it to, both with some special events coming in future seasons (like crowning a Tumult Champion!)
