Tell us your "Altered" story? How did you discover the game and why do you like it?

Once upon a social media scroll...

An ad, with art of a singing mushroom scrolled past, announcing a new Kickstarter campaign. Sure please notify me when this becomes available to pledge. A week or two passed a couple more Altered ads on social media scrolling by. I guess the algorithm really thinks this game may interest me.

Pulled up the official Altered website, a print and play is available? A trip to the library to print them, some sleeves to put the game together, and one game later. Well... that was it, I had just found my new favorite game. From decades of other trading card games, board games, role playing games, the first play through of this game had me smitten. Also the mushroom wasn't singing, it's sneezing!

A solid pledge later on Kickstarter, joining the Discord and finding the most welcoming, inclusive, helpful community, and learning about the organized play. The next milestone for me will be opening the real game in my hands!

What have you done in the community?

After pledging and joining the Discord, with all the buzz about the game I did my best to learn the product, learn how to answer questions and was lucky enough to be promoted to a moderator of the Discord channel.

Where I continue to converse about Altered, do my best to support and help others learn about this new exciting game coming out, and hopefully help front a welcoming/helpful community for all on behalf of Altered and Equinox.

Over 100 games logged on Board Game Arena. Normally demo decks or starter decks get boring, this game holds the replay value using the same decks over and over. Hope to pair with you in the arena!

What is your favourite card and faction? Why?

Sneezer Shroom... no Yzmir Stargazer... no Paint Prison... wait it must be Atlas... I can do this, maybe it's Coppelia and Lovelace... alright fine you caught me it's whatever the newest cutest one is so at present that's obviously Moonlight Jellyfish. Best faction is obviously Yzmir, because it’s purple (And that’s honestly why I chose it). Though I usually lean magic users/support so the playstyle happens to fit my gaming preference.

In the grand scheme of all games I'm the, "Johnny/Jenny" - the combo player, if my machine works once every hundred games I'm happy. Deck building is my zen, when I get into a game I work hard to be a generalist in all the factions/colors and become an encyclopedia of just about every card. I don't like using other people's decks or even having others use mine. They're all my precious joys in life and the sparks of why I play the game. I'd rather have twenty decks and play a new one every game than reiterate and play the same one over and over - which makes me a very weak competitive player.

On the opposite hand of constructed, if you sit me down for a sealed event I definitely get a little more spikey (competitive). I like the lower barrier to entry or general equity a sealed event provides than constructed and the more even playing field rather than just collecting the chase cards and going hard. It lets the spotlight on seemingly less powerful cards shine like the full moon. That "boring" card all spikes playing constructed would rather use as a drink coaster becomes some of the biggest game twists you'll ever encounter.

Anything you're looking forward to in the future of the game?

Collecting all the foils! ALL OF THEM! Then printing them! All of them!

Joining, growing, and supporting the game through the Organized Play system. Which feels like the next level of what organized play should be.
