Hey there, I'm Denice, also known as The Art Fish, and I've been on my digital art journey since mid-2020, based out of the Netherlands. Growing up, board- and card games weren't a big part of my childhood, as my parents weren't particularly fond of them. It wasn't until 2021 that I caught the bug and started building my own collection, learning the ropes from my two cousins, uncle and aunt. So for me, I'm rather late to the party, but nowadays I'm a huge fantasy nerd both in books and games!

Tell us your "Altered" story? How did you discover the game and why did you like it?

My Altered story is quite the tale! It all began with my involvement in the Dutch demo team for Disney's Lorcana TCG, where I found myself explaining the intricacies of the game to fellow enthusiasts. It was during one of those conventions that my friend Luuk, the owner of a board game shop called Koning Bordspel in Amersfoort, introduced me to something truly unexpecting.

Luuk, knowing my passion and love for art, pulled me aside and insisted I take a look at something that perfectly matched my vibe and interest. That something was Altered's Instagram account. As soon as I laid eyes on their artwork, I was captivated! The vibrant colours, the fantastical elements and playful yet semi-realistic style resonated deeply with me.

As a fantasy illustrator myself, Altered art style felt like a mirror image of my own creative vision-playful, colourful, with a touch of semi-realism.

Though I hadn't yet had the chance to dive into the gameplay back then, it was the art alone that drew me in and sparked a profound connection with the game.

What have you done in the community ?

It's funny how things unfold sometimes. When I stumbled upon Altered artwork, I couldn't help but feel this rush of excitement. It was like stumbling upon a treasure trove of inspiration.

So, naturally, I had to dive into their Discord to soak up all the latest updates. But guess what? Altered was still in its baby stages, just beginning its journey into the big wide world. I was surprised to find out I was one of the first to create fan art for them! I mean, their art was so captivating, I just had to create something of my own!

I remember scrolling through their Instagram feed, searching for that one piece that spoke to me. And there she was, The Trickster, beckoning me with her mischievous grin. I couldn't resist illustrating a portrait, and let me tell you, it was a blast! She feels like home!

There's something magical about their characters that just lights me up. I mean, have you ever seen a Sneezer Shroom? They're so adorable, I couldn't resist sketching one up when someone in the Discord asked. And then there was Teija & Nauraa, who practically begged to be doodled!

Sure, I might not be the most active chatter in the Discord, but I'm always there, soaking up the creative vibes and adding my own little doodles to the mix. Because when you're surrounded by art as awesome as Altered's, it's hard not to get swept up in the magic of it all.

What is your favourite card and faction? Why?

You know, Lyra has got to be my absolute favourite faction, hands down. And why? Well, let me tell you, it's all about those "Nomadic Artists." I mean, come on, I'm an artist myself! It's like they read my mind!

I'm all about wandering, spinning tales, and chasing that feeling of pure magic, just like the Lyra folks. When I look at their faction, I can practically hear the laughter and feel the fun bursting out of it. That's totally me!

But you know what else I think is cool about Lyra? Their playstyle is all about luck, which keeps things super interesting. It's like every game is a new adventure waiting to happen.

Oh, and let's talk about the Trickster. She's not just a card, she's practically a legend! She has a special place in my heart and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one. I mean, she's even my PC wallpaper - that's how much I adore her. But honestly, all of Lyra's cards are top-notch. Have you seen Rin & Orchid? Arjun & Spike? Nevenka & Blotch? The list goes on and on, and I just can't get enough!

Anything you're looking forward to in the future of the game?

I'm buzzing with excitement for the game's release this year! It's a bummer I couldn't jump on the Kickstarter train, fingers crossed my local game shop stocks up on Altered TCG. I'm itching to dive deeper into the lore, especially with all those incredible artworks and characters they've got. I’m really looking forward to Altered organised plays in the game shops or one day to meet the team at one of the conventions! And one’s allowed to dream right? Perhaps one day I’ll be an Altered artist too. After scrolling through Altered's Instagram feed again, my hands are practically itching to grab my pencil and doodle up a storm. Speaking of which, I'm off to sketch Rin! Catch you later!
