The Altered TCG Official Tournament Guidelines are a guiding document to assist with the preparation, and execution of Altered tournaments. This document should be familiarized by players, tournament officials, and tournament organizers alike. It is the reference to follow for any Altered event held in an Organized Play setting.

As Altered is still coming into its own as a competitive TCG, we encourage both players and potential judges alike to learn the guidelines in this document over time. While official Equinox Altered events will not start in earnest until 2025, we want to provide this document now to receive feedback from the community as we refine it moving forward.

Players are not required to read and remember the Tournament Guidelines unless they are planning to attend an Altered tournament, in which case, they should be aware of the requirements detailed in the Player Responsabilities section.

How do the Comprehensive Rules differ from the Tournament Guidelines?

While both the Comprehensive Rules and Tournament Guidelines are used in a tournament setting, the Comprehensive Rules are defined and should be enforced across all Altered events the same way. The Tournament Guidelines should assist organizers in executing events, and will provide a path for consistency, though it is impossible to proactively identify every situation a player or tournament official could find themselves in.

Altered tournaments are not a "one size fits all" experience, so we encourage using judgement and prior experience when working with this document.

Can I expect the Tournament Guidelines to be updated?

The Tournament Guidelines document is planned to be updated three times a year, around each new expansion release. Changes will be outlined in an article of their own. We encourage feedback from the community to build this document further.
