Before launching on your journey through the Cais Adarra in Trial by Frost, plan a stop by your local game store and join a pre-release starting January 24 to be among the first to discover the set.

January 24 marks the first day of pre-releases and also the first time you’ll be able to play with cards from Trial by Frost. With an emphasis on fun and community, pre-releases are the best way to discover a new set. Whether you’re a new or returning player, the goal for pre-releases is to gather everyone around their passion for Altered and their excitement for playing with the new set.

Pre-releases are open to everyone, and the good news is you do not need to bring anything! If you wish to protect your cards or show off your awesome playmat, then accessories are welcome, but other than that, everything will be provided by your store, including brand new Adventure cards!

The game format for pre-releases is Sealed Deck. To learn more about it, check out our article on the Sealed Deck Format.

Your store will provide you with 7 booster packs which you’ll open to build a deck of 30 cards. Remember that unlike constructed formats, you can play with up to 3 different factions for fun and unexpected synergies!

Once you have your deck, your store will pair you against other players and the challenge begins!

Attending any Altered event brings its share of rewards, but we’ve set aside a little something extra for pre-releases, so let’s break it down.

Pre-releases mark the start of Season 2. Meaning that attending a pre-release and any event starting January 24 counts toward your progress on your Adventure Pass for Season 2. Remember to activate it on January 24!

This is also the first event where you’ll be able to get Trial by Frost Promo Boosters. For this set, we’ve updated the content of Promo Boosters with new uniques of course, but also exclusive alt art cards of important story characters.

These cards are textless, feature full art illustrations, and are extra durable!
