Monolith Rune-Scribe

The Ordis manifest their Alteration through the use of glyphs of power.

Story

Baxsan indicates a new symbol – "Shackle" – and I trace the Glyph on my vellum. "Darkness," "Passage," "Weathervane," "Wall," "Labyrinth"... an endless series of ideograms that I try my best to reproduce. I naturally stumble over some of them, especially "Lagoon" and "Sharp." Thankfully, Bax corrects my errors and has infinite patience with my fumbled efforts and indecisiveness. I'm a long way from achieving the same vocabulary as the other Exalts in terms of Glyphs and Alteration in general, but I'm determined to catch up and improve my Heka skills. I was fortunate to have Venka put me in touch with the daughter of a friend of his, a big-name Runic Scribe, and for her to agree to take the time to teach me. I massage my temples and frown as I try to decipher another Glyph.

Bax closes her book and moves over to the center of the writing circle, inviting me to join her. After more than two hours deciphering Glyphs, I admit my head feels like it's about to explode. She must have sensed I was nearing the saturation point. Anyway, I'm happy to move on to practical work. I've always preferred to get my hands dirty, rather than stain my fingers with ink. Before I even reach the center of the summoning circle, Baxsan places a Glyph on the ground and blasts it with thousands of lightning bolts. Under the pressure of her palm, stone blocks spring from the floor. I know what game she wants to play. I need to create something to counter what she has conjured. A lightning rod? Some kind of insulator? I place my own Glyph on my armor, which transforms into an insulating suit, and enter the dueling area. Bax smiles. Now it's my turn. What can I create to make things tricky for her?
