Amelia Earhart
"The most effective way to do it, is to do it."
Story
The alarm blares in the cockpit as red lights blink all around. I cough. The whole ship trembles and creaks as it plunges down toward the sea. Damn, this was supposed to be just a simple reconnaissance mission! Paju is unconscious in his seat, blood running down his face. I struggle to keep my eyes open against the wind rushing through the shattered windshield. He looks deathly pale. I grit my teeth and swear repeatedly. The console is severely damaged, smashed by the Kraken's tentacles. There's nothing more that can be done here. I remove my straps and grab my Construct. I rearrange the artifact to start the sequence I need. Out of the corner of my eye, I see the left engine burning in a plume of smoke. The ground is fast approaching. A jolt shakes the surveillance aerodyne.
I hold on as best I can and successfully make Amelia Earhart appear through the Construct. The aviator sits in the pilot's seat while I unstrap Paju and lay him down on the aircraft's floor. The Eidolon is the only one who can get us out of this. I take off my gloves and open my friend's blood-soaked suit. I press my ear to his chest. Good, he's breathing. With commotion all around, I tie him to the nets and attach myself to the railing. I feel the nose of the aerodyne lifting… I look at Amelia, who has managed to stabilize the ship and is now flying over the Rampart. Good, we're saf… The explosion hurls me against the wall. I feel an excruciating pain at the bottom of my back as I collapse. Everything spins. I'm lifted off the ground. My head bangs against something. White noise. A hurricane.
Inspiration
Amelia Earhart was an American aviator, famous for being the first woman to complete a solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Passionate about aviation and associated achievements, she was a strong advocate for equal rights for women. In 1937, while trying to circumnavigate the globe from west to east on her twin-engine Lockheed Electra 10-E, Amelia and her navigator, Fred Noonan, disappeared in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and have never been found.
